Caiarossa, Aria Di Caiarossa, 2020

The Aria Di Caiarossa 2020 is a deeply coloured, dark blue-back ruby. The colour is partly a reflection of the 2020 vintage with its clear, cool, early autumn nights. This big diurnal difference in temperature between day and night in the run up to vintage, aside from keeping the acidity, tends to fix anthocyanins and produce deeply coloured wines. The nose on this 2020 is very tightly controlled with finely integrated elements of oak, smoke, toast, black cherry and just a touch of tar. The palate is supremely integrated and flows beautifully. It is very hard to not swallow this one! There is an intriguing green herb flavour set against a background of ripe black cherry and cream that runs through the palate to the end but this gives the wine its own personality and adds to the length. This wine is made from grapes from their highest Nocolino vineyards at up to 350m above sea level and with some areas of volcanic soil. The tannins are extremely well managed and beautifully integrated but what I like most about it is that this is such a bright and vivacious wine. 32% Cabernet Franc, 24% Merlot, 19% Cabernet, 18% Syrah, 7% Grenache. Drink from 2023 to 2033.
