Caiarossa, Caiarossa, 2020

Caiarossa is the ‘grand vin’ of the estate and this 2020 is an exotic blend of Cabernet Franc (28%), Syrah (23%), Cabernet Sauvignon (18%), Merlot (13%), Sangiovese (13%), Petit Verdot (4%) and Grenache (1%). The 2020 has much darker fruit than the 2019, with smoky, dark plums, ripe black fruit and touches of cedar, and smoke and toast notes from well-integrated oak. The aromas and flavours are in harmony and enmeshed together. The texture is beautifully silky and the wine manages to be rich without being heavy. The tannins are like fine sand and linger on the finish. It is a super-stylish wine, beautifully made and supremely drinkable but also with the ability to age. While it is already enjoyable to drink now, it will become more interesting and complex at between 5 and 10 years old. Drink from 2025 to 2035.
