Alto Adige #3

Visiting the very steep hillside locations for many of the @cantinaterlano growers cultivating tiny plots of land on average 1/2 in a hectare in size. In parts the labour intensive #pergola way of training vines is still used as well as #guyot. Director of @cantinaterlano Klaus Gasser says that both ways of training the vines can produce equally high quality grapes but it all depends how the grower/viticulturist tends them. The important thing is to have not too much vigour and to have a calm and balanced vineyard.  @cantinaterlano is mostly #whitewine production and has a speciality in #pinotbianco They make #pinotbianco with an unbelievable capacity to age – at least 20 years in the case of the best wines! This variety is a speciality here. In contrast to @cantina_andriano where there are white soils rich in #limestone or #calcare in Italian.@Catina_adriano they produce more red wines. Whereas @cantinaterlano has over 55% quartz and red porphyry soils and harvests 10-14 days earlier than @cantina_andriano @gasser.klaus @thurnerpr @erlacheralexandra @juliaspringeth
