Today I visited the historic Cantine Nervi in Gattinara (the oldest cellar in Gattinara) now owned by Roberto Conterno (Conterno Cantine Nervi) since 2018. The wines are of course perfectly made as you would expect from this producer. The 2018 Gattinara was looking beautifully open and expressive, the 2020 is full of vibrancy and light and was my personal favourite on that day but you can also see that the Vigna Molsino has such great power and depth that it has not begun to express itself properly yet. It is a wine with a great future. The winery and cantina are immaculately clean also which is also a characteristic of Roberto Conterno’s winemaking style. With lightening speed from purchase in April 2018 to December 2020 and given all the stops and starts during Covid a brand new cantina has been created with a tasting room that is suspended from the ceiling. The place looks stunning. The cellar has been beautifully re-designed and everywhere is super stylish. There is also a beautiful but comfortable looking restaurant with a cellar of older vintages of Conterno’s Barolo. Not to mention the wines – see separate post for that #gattinara #nebbiolo #altopiemonte #piedmont
